Sau vụ tranh luận mấy năm trước với Nguyễn Tôn Hiệt (nick-name của Hoàng Ngọc - Tuấn bên Tiền Vệ), thì không thấy Ngô Tự Lập có gì đăng trên Tiền Vệ nữa. Cũng lâu lâu, không còn thấy anh viết về Trần Dân Tiên. Và đặc biệt, không thấy anh thực hiện dịch phẩm nào đáng kể từ dự án dịch sách mà anh đã trình bày hồi lâu lâu. 

Một đợt, thấy anh viết ca khúc.

Và hôm nay, ngẫu nhiên, đọc tin, thấy đưa: một tập thơ song ngữ Việt - Anh của anh (xuất bản ở nước ngoài) vừa trượt giải PEN. Luôn thấy anh đam mê thể nghiệm trong nhiều lĩnh vực nghệ thuật.

Yannis Ritsos’ Diaries of Exile spans an era in Greece that was politically dangerous, especially for a radical who would not compromise his art. The three diaries include a peculiar lyric in the form of "a censored postcard”—ten lines or less—that was imposed by prison guards. Ritsos used the compressed form to his advantage. These ten-lined poems, as well as the other "diary entries," are brilliant stops in time. The individual titles are dates and add social context to his world, as in "January 10": "You have to tie your own hands. / You tie them. / Night cuts the cords." Stellar translators Karen Emmerich and Edmund Keeley take these poems from their limited context and bring out a universal predicament, that is, writing from an existence of harshness and hope. I feel privileged to hold these.

"Những vì sao đen' của Ngô Tự Lập trượt giải thơ dịch PEN 2014

Là một trong 10 đề cử của giải thơ PEN Award 2014, song tập thơ "Những vì sao đen - Black Stars" của Ngô Tự Lập đã không giành được chiến thắng chung cuộc.

Giải thưởng thơ "PEN Award for Poetry in Translation" 2014 vừa công bố người thắng cuộc hôm qua, 30/7. Theo đó tập thơ giành giải nhất có tên Diaries of Exile của nhà thơ nổi tiếng Hy Lạp Yannis Ristos, được Karen Emmerich và Edmund Keeley dịch sang tiếng Anh. Yannis Ritos là một nhà thơ lớn của thế giới trong thế kỷ 20. Ông tham gia hoạt động chính trị, từng bị giam giữ trong trại tập trung thời kỳ chế độ độc tài cầm quyền. Thơ Yannis được đánh giá là: "Cuộc đời và tác phẩm hòa lẫn với lịch sử khốn khổ và vinh quang của đất nước Hy Lạp".

Tập thơ "Black Stars" được dịch và xuất bản tại Mỹ cuối năm 2013.

Vào đầu tháng 6, PEN công bố 10 tác phẩm lọt vào danh sách "longlist" của giải thưởng, trong đó có tập thơ Những vì sao đen - Black Stars của Ngô Tự Lập. Tập thơ được chính tác giả và bà Martha Collins dịch sang tiếng Anh, được Nhà xuất bản Milkweed của Mỹ phát hành tháng 10/2003. Tuy không giành được giải thưởng cao nhất, song việc tập thơ lọt vào đề cử giải thưởng cho thấy tác phẩm của Ngô Tự Lập đã tìm được tiếng nói, sự đồng cảm với độc giả thi ca thế giới.

"PEN Award for Poetry in Translation" là một giải thưởng thơ uy tín, thành lập từ năm 1963. Giải trao thường niên tại Mỹ cho những tập thơ dịch từ ngôn ngữ khác sang tiếng Anh được xuất bản trong một năm trước đó.

Thơ của Ngô Tự Lập được đề cử PEN Award

“Những vì sao đen” của Ngô Tự Lập là một trong mười tập thơ lọt vào vòng sơ khảo (long list) ở hạng mục Thơ dịch của giải PEN (PEN Award for Poetry Translation).

Hội Văn bút Quốc tế (PEN International) là một tổ chức văn chương lớn, ra đời năm 1921, nhằm thúc đẩy tinh thần hợp tác, hữu nghị giữa những người cầm bút trên khắp thế giới. Hiện, PEN có hơn 100 trung tâm thành viên trên toàn cầu. Ngoài ra, tổ chức này còn góp phần tăng cường vai trò của văn học trong việc phát triển sự hiểu biết lẫn nhau giữa các quốc gia; bảo vệ quyền tự do ngôn luận...

PEN vừa công bố danh sách các tác phẩm lọt vào đề cử giải thưởng năm 2014. Trong đó, tập thơ Những ngôi sao đen - Black Stars của tác giả Ngô Tự Lập có tên trong long list gồm 10 đề cử của hạng mục Thơ dịch (PEN Award for Poetry in Translation). Tập thơ Những vì sao đen - Black Stars của Ngô Tự Lập do chính tác giả và nhà thơ Mỹ Martha Collins dịch sang tiếng Anh, được Nhà xuất bản Milkweed của Mỹ phát hành tháng 10/2013.

Nhà văn Ngô Tự Lập cho biết, ông rất vui khi nhận được thông tin tập thơ của mình lọt vào đề cử từ bà Martha Collins. Ông kể, quá trình tập thơ được phát hành giống như một cái duyên. Hè năm 2004, Ngô Tự Lập ở Mỹ để làm luận án tiến sĩ. Ông được Viện William Joiner mời tới Boston tham gia giao lưu ở trại sáng tác của Đại học Massachusetts. Tại đó Ngô Tự Lập đã đọc thơ của mình dịch sang tiếng Anh. Martha Collins, một dịch giả, nhà thơ Mỹ rất thích thơ ông. Sau đó, bà dịch thêm nhiều bài thơ của Ngô Tự Lập và đăng tải trên các tạp chí văn chương của Mỹ. 

Sau đó Ngô Tự Lập cũng dịch thơ của Martha Collins sang tiếng Việt, ông nói đọc thơ Martha, ông có cảm giác như đọc thơ mình. Khi các bài thơ của Ngô Tự Lập dịch và giới thiệu khá nhiều tại Mỹ, hai tác giả có dịp gặp nhau và quyết định sẽ làm tập thơ Black Stars song ngữ.

Tập thơ có hơn 40 bài, được dịch song ngữ, gồm những tác phẩm hay của Ngô Tự Lập. Tập thơ chia làm ba phần, phần thứ nhất là những bài viết về chiến tranh, về thời thơ ấu và tuổi trẻ của tác giả. Những bài thơ trong phần này rút từ tập thơ Thế giới và tôi phát hành năm 1997. Phần hai là những suy tư của một kẻ viễn du, những suy nghĩ về nguồn cội, gồm các tác phẩm rút từ tập thơ Chuyến bay đêm tháng sáu đã phát hành năm 2001. Phần ba là những tác phẩm mới viết của ông, về thân phận người.

Nhà thơ Ngô Tự Lập không biết tổ chức nào đã đề cử tập thơ Black Stars vào giải Thơ dịch của PEN 2014 (các cá nhân không có quyền đề cử, chỉ những tổ chức như một nhà xuất bản, trung tâm, tổ chức văn chương… mới có thể gửi tác phẩm tham dự giải).

Giải thưởng Thơ dịch của giải PEN được thành lập năm 1963, nhằm tôn vinh các dịch giả. Giải trao thường niên tại Mỹ cho những tập thơ dịch từ ngôn ngữ khác sang tiếng Anh được xuất bản trong năm trước đó.

PEN sẽ đưa ra danh sách chung khảo (short list) vào 17/6. Kết quả chung cuộc sẽ công bố vào ngày 30/7.

Ngô Tự Lập sinh năm 1962, là nhà thơ, dịch giả, nhà lý luận và phê bình văn học, điện ảnh. Ông từng tốt nghiệp Đại học Hàng hải ở Nga. Hiện ông công tác tại Khoa Quốc tế - Đại học Quốc gia Hà Nội.
